The days are (theoretical!) getting longer and another year is upon us. It’s a time for reflection and anticipation of changes and hopefully, improvements. Punching out a list of resolutions is not uncommon this time of year, although there’s not a lot of agreement about how fruitful this is or how successful one can be.

It’s my opinion that we all have our own internalized timeclock of when we need to make some changes. Sometimes that aligns with the creation of New Year’s resolutions but frequently not. How do we know when we’re ready to take action that will result in meaningful changes for the better? I find Bill Harris’ article, How to Escape from the Box Trap”, one of the best descriptions of how we can evaluate when and what we need to change.

Improving one’s health is always a valuable aspiration anytime of year. For many people, focusing on modifiable lifestyle habits can be a gamecharger because it puts us in the driver’s seat. Modifying our daily behavior(s) can empower us to take ownership of our health and wellbeing. I like Dr Russell Jaffe’s quote, “92% of Health is Choice not Chance”, to remind myself and my clients that we can influence our health outcomes by our behaviors and choices.

A good place to start is by addressing the three-legged stool of dietary habits/nutrition, exercise/movement and sleep/relaxation. And it helps to remember that this three-legged stool is sitting solidly on a foundational base of personal resilience and how we deal with life’s stressors. Making healthy lifestyle changes is the focus of HHG’s blog posts. If you aren’t receiving them you can subscribe here. Some examples of what you might find here are…

and many other posts on a variety of topics.

(Don’t see something that you’d like to learn more about? I’d love to hear from you.)

For the past several weeks, I’ve been sharing the results of my deep dive into bone health via a variety of blog posts all having to do with various aspects of this important health concern.

The Foundations of Bone Building webinar in November was so popular that we did a second showing in early December to another group of 30+ participants! So much fun and a pleasure to be sharing such important information.

The popularity of this topic and the desire by so many to do as much as possible for their bone strength has led me to developing an online program devoted to educating and counseling clients who want to create their own Bone Builder road map. This 6 week program, the Bone Builder Master Class, begins January 23rd and there are a few spots available. You can learn more here.

I want to wrap up by sharing some of the tools and resources that I have found beneficial in my personal efforts to improve my health and those around me. Sometimes, efforts to enhance wellness have to do with improving our immediate environment – the quality of the water we drink and the air that we breathe as well as our ergonomics for work and daily living. I hope you find them helpful.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy year ahead!

Suzanne

AquaTru Water Purifier

Stonybrook Water Filter

For the water you drink - AquaTru Water Purifiers OR Stonybrook Water System

Both systems offer countertop set-ups as well as under-counter systems. We use the Stonybrook counter-top system in the office and I have the AquaTru counter-top system in my kitchen. Happy with both and confident with their filtration processes, although I have a preference for the Stonybrook system mostly because there’s no standing water reservoir, basically it offers a “dry technology”. The down side of this feature is that it necessitates being plumbed into your existing water supply and I don’t have a handy spot in my kitchen for the unit. The AquaTru system comes with a reverse osmosis feature that filters out dangerous inorganic chemicals, including lead, chromium 6, arsenic, uranium, nitrates and many more. The Stonybrook filtration system has this as an optional add-on.

For the air you breathe - Air Doctor

These might look familiar if you’ve been in the office since Covid hit. My research showed that Air Doctor was one of the few companies that ran studies on their products to determine that the purifier’s filtration system could effectively capture particles as small as the Covid virus. That impressive quality as well as its relative quietness made it a definite winner.
